Excursion to Perućica

Perucica is one of the last preserved rainforests in Europe. It is located within the Sutjeska National Park.

In the heart of Perucica is Skakavac, a waterfall over 70 meters high.

The human hand has never had an impact on the birth-life-death cycle of plants and animals in this rainforest. It contains a large number of trees that are around 300 years old, and the rainforest itself is thought to be around 20,000 years old. Here you can find trees over 50 meters high, and currently the highest measured height is 57.4 meters. So far, over 170 species of trees and shrubs, and over 1000 species of herbaceous plants, many of which are endemic, have been registered.

Due to the fact that the forest is very dense, in some parts even impassable, and protected, the visit is allowed only with an announcement and accompanied by a guide from the Sutjeska National Park.
