Old Towns and fortifications

Old Towns and fortifications – During the time of Šćepan Kosača, there were fortifications in these areas that had multiple purposes and function. These castle fortresses were used for resting the nobles, and during wartime they had the function of fortification, observation and control of the movement of caravans and passers-by. Today, there are only ruins and bundles (Tođevac, Vratar, Kosman, Prilep, Veletin, etc.) remained of these fortifications.

Crypt and Tower in Rataji

In the village of Rataji, 3 km from the settlement of Miljevina, there is an interesting monument of medieval sacral architecture, which represents a grave chamber with a crypt. The grave chamber is carved into stone. During archaeological research it was established that there was a monastery, built before the IX century. It was destroyed by the Turks in the 16th or 17th centuries, and the famous Herzegovinian family Čengići later built a tower for housing. The tower is made of carved stone, and covered with turf.
